We’ve all heard the scary stats. This is the first generation of children that may not outlive their parents; one in three American kids is overweight or obese; one in three born in the last decade is on a path toward Type II diabetes. Among minorities, these probabilities increase to one in two.
These trends are pretty terrifying. But there are heartening trends too. This generation is paying way more attention to what they eat. This generation wants to improve access to good, honest food. So it’s really about time that a national program like FoodCorps, part of the AmeriCorps network, exists.
