The Warren Record: Celeste Frisbee helps a North Carolina School Deepen Their Impact

by Luci Weldon

Warren County is one of eight North Carolina counties selected to participate in the three-year FoodCorps program, designed to promote healthy nutrition among local students through such measures as school gardens.

FoodCorps is sponsored by North Carolina 4-H and the North Carolina State University Center for Environmental Farming Systems. The nationwide program is made possible by a $625,000 grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the national service agency AmeriCorps to support 50 FoodCorps service members across the country.

Warren County’s portion of the grant, $15,000, allows FoodCorps service member Celeste Frisbee, a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., to work with Warren County High School (WCHS) students on such projects as upgrading the school’s greenhouse, developing a garden and using the produce they grow to assist a number of classes.
